A graduate of Saybrook University, Bruce is a spiritual psychologist and teacher of the essence of world religions. He has taught at JFK University in Pleasant Hill, California and many spiritual centers in the United States, Germany, and Switzerland.
In 1975 he wrote the book The Magical Child Within You which was the first book written on trusting and nurturing the inner child. A couple years later he coauthored another best selling book Hugs & Kisses about loving life, which has been a theme of his work ever since.
While a graduate student, Bruce met and became an apprentice to a remarkable Shaman who had the gift of entering into and teaching people in their dreams. For four years, Bruce was introduced to many realms and worlds outside normal western thought. These years were to be the beginning of Bruce's quest to understand the potential of psychology and spirituality.
Since 1983 he has led spiritual retreats in many parts of Europe, Asia, United States. Taking people to sacred places like Assisi, Italy, participants discover the sacred place within themselves. For twelve years Bruce and Ruth lived in Assisi, founding the Assisi Retreat Center where people of all backgrounds are welcome to enjoy the simple peace and spirit of St. Francis of Assisi. Recently Bruce & Ruth have opened a sister retreat center, Silent Stay, near Napa, California, a place of silence. It is their wish to provide a sanctuary for everyone who yearns for real peace and quiet towards finding their own inner joy, spirituality, and purpose.
Through the years, Bruce has studied and lived with spiritual teachers in India, Philippines, Germany and Bali, Indonesia. He has lived in monasteries and ashrams in different cultures learning to appreciate the heart of all religions. For many years he and Ruth led a program of taking teenagers from one of America's wealthiest communities into the poorest neighborhood of San Francisco to give food to people living in the streets.

Raised Christian, as a young woman she traveled to India and was initiated into a Yogic path, of meditation and right living, in 1970, called Surat Shabd Yoga. She feels each person's life is a gift. Ruth holds certifications in Dance Movement Therapy, Clinical Hypnotherapy (including NLP) and is an Ayurvedic Health Educator. For Ruth, dance, prayer, and a life of great heart are the core of the spiritual journey.
Meditative movement is the integration of sitting meditation, body & psyche. It balances the subtle energies of the bodymind. Having studied Chi Gung Ruth found the essence of the teaching is a deep connection to nature. Moving with nature we learn to move at the pace of peace. She leads people in Sacred Movement Ritual, a meditation in movement that she created in 2005. It is a culmination of her life's journey of professional dance, Eastern philosophy, devotion and Chi Gung. She invites people to experience the spiritual wisdom that can be found within basic movement.
Sacred Movement Ritual is a series of 9 moving contemplations that promote peace and wisdom, while balancing the subtle energies of the body. Each contemplation is a spiritual lesson. She teaches this as a year long practice for those that continue to study with her. A book and DVD are available to take home the practice.
"A retreat is a time to come home inside yourself, where the mind stops and silence of the heart begins." Ruth Davis
