Heartfulness Meditation
Experiencing Infinite Heart Awareness
“As we come to an emptiness of the mind, the heart opens to a vastness within.” — Bruce Davis, PhD
Heart-Centered Quiet
Reflective moments help us welcome the beauty of nature, meditation, and the stillness of our own hearts. This is the simple joy of just being. Each moment is an invitation to connect deeply with ourselves, allowing the sights and sounds of nature to inspire our practice.
Our Assisi retreats provide a rare pause, days free from daily demands and our personal narratives. Within the quiet, we tune into the peace existing all around and within us. It is a time to simply practice being and to discover an inner sanctuary, a steady anchor that is always present.
We can quiet the busy mind and settle into the calm of the heart. Instead of constantly overthinking, we can choose an awareness that is open, soft, and deeply present. The path of Heartfulness gently returns us to the beauty of the present moment and the simple, free flow of our true being.
Thinking and awareness are entirely separate. The mind judges; the heart experiences. Letting our heart lead, we can feel life directly, exactly as it is offered.
Meditation does not have to be difficult. We are gradually changing the habit of constantly thinking and carrying the details and challenges of daily life within us. Heartfulness Meditation invites us to let go of the busy mind, rest awareness in the heart, and experience the spacious presence of our own being.
Heartfulness in Assisi
During our retreats, Heartfulness extends beyond the meditation room. We practice as we walk through Assisi, sit in its chapels and gardens, share time together, rest, and listen.
The life of Saint Francis continues to inspire this journey of the heart: a life of simplicity, presence, openness, and love. In Assisi, his invitation feels especially close, reminding us that the heart can become a way of meeting ourselves, one another, nature, and the sacred.
Little by little, meditation becomes less something we do at a particular time and more a way of being: listening, receiving, and resting in the heart.
Heartfulness Meditation in 3 Steps
1 - Letting Go
We begin by offering what we are carrying in the heart: our worries and desires, judgments, likes and dislikes.
We offer what occupies us to the great silence, the universe, God, or whatever we call the greatest love.
As we offer, we begin to let go. The busy mind gradually becomes still and our awareness returns
to the heart, soft, free, open, and naturally calm.
2 - Expanding
As the mind becomes quiet, the heart opens to a vastness within.
Our awareness expands beyond the boundaries of our thoughts into the landscape of the heart.
Here we may experience a great inner space, a valley of lightness, a reservoir of calm, an ocean of peace.
Each person has their own unique experience.
3. Receiving
As we rest awareness in the depths of the heart, we begin to experience and receive its inner qualities:
peace, calm, serenity, love, openness, and presence of being.
These are the treasures found deep inside that support us from within.
We rest, receive, and absorb this radiant presence from the innermost sanctuary of the heart.
