Papal blessing from Pope John Paul II
for Assisi Retreats Eumenical Work
Ruth & Bruce Davis completed construction of a Meditation Temple for the World Religions in Assisi in August of 2001. People from all over the world came to sit together from all walks of life and religious backgrounds.
The World Trade Center in New York was attacked in September of that year. Pope John Paul II decided to convene the world relgious leaders in Assisi in January 2002. This was only the 2nd time in history that this event occured. The first was in 1986.
He wanted to convey that the world religions are a way to bring people together not divide them. In advance of this powerful moment in world history Pope John Paul II acknowledged Assisi Retreats with his personal blessing, for our ecumenical work, as it's purpose aligned with this moment. Our Meditation Temple was featured, in local news, as one of the places to visit for this special occasion.
